Travelling to the mountains is always better when you share it. There is something about pointing out the first sight of Kanchenjunga to a friend, or watching your whole family go quiet as the road climbs above the clouds, that a solo photo can never quite hold. If you have been thinking about a trip to the eastern Himalayas with your people, well-planned Sikkim group tour packages take the stress out of the logistics and leave you with just the good part — the journey itself.
At Hill Zone Tourism, based right at the foothills in Siliguri, we put together group trips to Sikkim for families, college friends, office teams, and senior citizen groups. Below is everything you need to know before you book, from the routes worth covering to the best season to travel and the permits you should keep ready.
Sikkim is a small state with a lot packed into it — winding mountain roads, high-altitude lakes, old monasteries, and villages that still feel untouched. Getting around solo means arranging shared cabs, chasing permits, and hoping the weather cooperates. A group package hands all of that to a local operator who does it every week.
The practical wins are real. Travelling as a group brings the per-head cost down, especially on transport and hotel rooms. You get a single point of contact instead of five different vendors. And on the mountain roads of North Sikkim, having an experienced local driver who knows every hairpin bend is worth far more than any app-based cab.
There is also the simpler reason: shared trips are just more fun. Long drives turn into playlists and card games, meals become an event, and the memories stick around long after you are home.

Every group is different, so we keep our itineraries flexible. That said, a standard package from us generally covers:
What is usually not included — lunches, entry tickets, joint-permit fees for spots like Tsomgo Lake, and anything personal — is always spelt out clearly before you pay, so there are no surprises later.
Here are a few of our most-booked routes. Each one is fully customizable, so treat these as a starting point rather than a fixed menu.
Sikkim Tour Package (4 Nights / 5 Days) — Our most popular short trip and a great first taste of the state. It covers Gangtok, local sightseeing, and a day trip to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir. Ideal for families with limited leave. Starting from around ₹12,999 per person. View this package »
North Sikkim Tour (5 Nights / 6 Days) — For groups who want the dramatic stuff: Lachung, the Yumthang Valley, and, subject to conditions, the surreal Gurudongmar Lake. This is the high-altitude adventure that most people come to Sikkim for. Starting from around ₹16,499 per person. View this package »
Silk Route Package (4 Nights / 5 Days) — The famous Old Silk Route through Zuluk, with its zig-zag roads and sunrise views over the snow peaks. Perfect for offbeat-minded groups. View this package »
Gangtok Pelling Tour (7 Nights / 8 Days) — A fuller loop combining the buzz of the capital with the quiet, waterfall-lined charm of West Sikkim. View this package »

Gangtok is where most trips begin. The capital has a lively energy, a walkable MG Marg lined with cafés and shops, monasteries like Rumtek nearby, and a ropeway with wide views over the town. It is an easy place for a group to settle in on day one.
Tsomgo (Changu) Lake and Nathula Pass make for one of the most loved day trips. The glacial lake sits at over 12,000 feet and freezes in winter, and the road up to the Indo-China border at Nathula is an experience in itself. Do note that Nathula is open on select days and needs a separate permit.
North Sikkim is the showpiece. The drive to Lachung and Lachen takes you deep into the high Himalayas. From there, the Yumthang Valley — the "Valley of Flowers" — bursts into colour in spring, while Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world, feels like standing at the edge of the sky. This region has thin air and unpredictable weather, which is exactly why a guided group trip beats going it alone.
Pelling and West Sikkim offer a slower pace, with the Kanchenjunga range framing the horizon, the Pemayangtse Monastery, and the glass Skywalk near Ravangla. It pairs beautifully with the busier east if your group has a week to spare.

Sikkim works almost year-round, but the season shapes the experience.
March to June brings pleasant days, blooming rhododendrons in Yumthang, and the clearest mountain views — the most comfortable window for mixed-age groups and the busiest, so book early.
October to December is crisp and dry with excellent visibility of the peaks, ideal if your group wants photography and cool weather without heavy rain.
Monsoon (July to September) turns the hills lush and green, and rates drop, but landslides can disrupt the North Sikkim roads, so keep the plans a little flexible.
For a first group trip covering both Gangtok and North Sikkim comfortably, the pre-monsoon spring months are hard to beat.
A few things save every group a lot of trouble:

We are a local team, not a distant call centre. Our base in Siliguri sits right beside NJP station and Bagdogra airport — the two gateways to Sikkim — which means our vehicles, drivers, and hotel tie-ups are all on the ground where your trip actually happens.
Groups choose us because we handle the messy parts well: reliable drivers who know the terrain, hotels that hold up to their photos, honest pricing with the exclusions written out, and round-the-clock support if plans shift mid-trip. Our travellers say it best in their reviews — well-organised itineraries, polite drivers, and trips that came together without a hitch. That is the standard we aim for on every group we send up the hills.
There is no strict minimum. We build packages for small family groups of four or five right up to large college and corporate batches of thirty or more, adjusting vehicles and rooms to fit.
Five to six days lets you enjoy Gangtok and North Sikkim without rushing. If you want to add Pelling, the Silk Route, or Darjeeling, plan for seven to nine days.
